28 Days Later - It always ended up leading to hate
A fan fiction focused on one of the supporting characters of the horror film '28 Days Later'. Begins as a third-person narrative using descriptive language to bring forth the features of the character; Mark, to the audience. Narrated in a sombre tone, Mark runs through the dark setting of the story which is revealed to be a flashback dream sequence as he awakes. The fan fiction continues in first-person as Mark, now in the present, fights for his survival against an infected intruder only to be revealed that Mark himself has now become infected.
Features good use of descriptive language although the story seems fairly rushed, lacking pacing and climatic build-up. Interesting use of third and first-person narratives to separate the flashback and the present. Some spelling and grammatical errors.

Planet of the Apes - Monkey Business
A first-person narrative based on the setting of the 'Planet of the Apes'. The story is primarily focused on the main character; Professor Cornelius, as he undertakes experiments on test animals leading to the death of the subjects, remaining apathetic on the conditions of such experiments. Cornelius, shown later to be working under the direction of the other main character, Governor Spankin. The plot line of the story is revealed to be an attempt to subdue a rebellion uprising through the use of a giant laser weapon. Upon deploying the weapon a twist is unveiled to the audience that the characters we had been following were in fact the apes themselves.
Although lacking in plot clarity for the majority of story, this fan fiction includes good character development through description and interaction, featuring a very well placed climatic twist.

American Pie - Let's Make A Little Bet
A story following one of the principal characters of the 'American Pie' series; Steve Stifler, who is commonly referred to as just 'Stifler', as he goes on an adventure in search of women. Other main characters include Stifler's friends; Jim, Kevin and Finch. The scene opens with Stifler; a rude, obnoxious male with his counterpart Finch; a calm and methodical person, as Stifler tries his luck in attracting a girl he meets. This nameless woman would later return as a supporting character of which the main plot is based upon.
This fan fiction features accurate portrayals of the characters, staying true to the tone set by the original series. The story itself does not flow very well, the scenes tend to change without warning to the reader. Needs work on correcting spelling and grammatical errors.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Dave, You Lost Your Voice
A fan fiction about Dave, an enthusiastic chipmunk with a talent and love for singing, one of the chipmunk characters featured in 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'. Featured alongside his other singing chipmunk companions; Dave finishes up a concert for the night with an astonishing cover of Corinne Baileys Rae's 'Put your records on'. After a night of continual singing practice the plot's staggering climax is unveiled as Dave loses his voice during a performance of Katy Perry's Hot N Cold. The tension builds as the chipmunks rush to Dave's aid. After an extensive analysis of Dave's esophageal structure the Doctor revealed that Dave in fact has a sore throat. Over the next week Dave begins a battle for his life, eventually making a miraculous recovery against all odds.
An inspiring tale of passion and loyalty that will keep you on the edge of your seat, guaranteeing you will never look at chipmunks the same way again.

Sex and the City - Blinded
A fan fiction narrated in third-person about Carrie, based on the events of the first 'Sex and the City' movie. Carrie's long time partner and love interest; Big, had abruptly abandoned her on their wedding day leaving Carrie in distress as she battles her emotions. The narrative gives a clear insight into the inner thoughts of Carrie as she continues to live her life, moving into the future trying to forget the past.
An extremely well written piece of literature exploring the themes of love and pain. The author does well in developing Carrie as the qualities of her character really shine through to the reader. A thought provoking read that is overshadowed only by it's minor spelling errors.

Ghostbusters - Slime can cause very sad things to happen
A fan fiction following the character of 'Ray', a rage induced ghostbuster bent on unleashing his anger. The story revolves around a blob of slime which had attached itself to Ray after being attracted by his strong emotions. This causes Ray to enter a heightened sense of anger as he unleashes his rage in a spurt of violence towards a friend trying to help. After nearly beating his friend to death he has a moment of realisation.
Quite a violent story with good descriptive language to illustrate the brutality. However the plot itself will leave you a bit confused as the author seems to move through the narrative fairly quickly without offering any explanations. A fan fiction which raises more questions than it answers.

Hannah Montana - It's not over
This fan fiction follows the character 'Jake' in first-person as he looks back on his past. Throughout the story we are taken on an emotional journey, vividly gaining an insight into Jake's mind as it goes through an internal conflict. Reminiscing on the relationship he had with Miley, Jake is lavished with remorse, unable to let go of his past as his actions come back to haunt him.
Overall this piece does an extremely good job of illustrating the internal conflict of the character. It is written in such a way that you feel as though you are there with the central character through his emotional collapse. Very good development of the story as it progresses with my only gripe centered towards the grammatical errors which seemed to tarnish the piece.

Totally Spies - In Paris
A fan fiction following two characters within the Totally Spies series; Sam and Tim, as they prepare for their vacation to Paris. The story begins with a flashback of the couple giving the reader an insight as to how the story had progressed to its present setting. Through the use of very descriptive language, strong imagery is imposed on the reader as the couple interact intimately, using dialogue to progress character development. As the flashback ends we are brought back to the present time where Sam is preparing to leave for her vacation with Tim. Brief dialogue is shared with supporting characters; Alex and Clover before the narrative concludes.
I applaud the author's use of descriptive language techniques to really force strong imagery, giving the impression that the characters were physically present with the reader. Some spelling mistakes are apparent in this fan fiction however.
3.5/5
Ice Age - Two Hearts into One
An Ice Age fan fiction following two possums; Crash and Eddie as they adventure through the woods. The two brothers are initially very similar, though as the characters develop we are easily able to see the differences between them. Eddie is a rather cowardly possum who thinks very deeply contrasted by his brother Crash who is very daring but often foolish. The narrative gives insight into Eddie's thoughts, especially those concerning Crash and their differences. Crash eventually confronts Eddie about his thoughts, however Eddie dismisses him and they continue playing.
The author makes very good use dialogue to really develop the differences between what would be two very similar characters. Eddie's monologue gives the reader a deeper view of the character, further adding to his development as a character. Good use of personification is also present however the story really lacks in spelling and grammar, this point alone really tarnished what could have been a very well polished piece.
2/5
Pirates of the Caribbean - When I Find the Ocean
Jack Sparrow features predominantly in this Pirates of the Caribbean fan fiction, set after the events of the final movie in the trilogy. Believing to be free at last to wander the seas with his beloved ship; the Black Pearl, Jack accompanied by his first mate 'Gibbs' discover that they have been tracked by another ship, a pirate ship. Jack makes a bold gamble to turn the Black Pearl around in order to confront this new threat. Allowing the opposing ship's captain to board Jack and this mysterious new character face off before the revealing herself to be the sister of Elizebeth Swann, a prominent character of the original series.
Among one of most well written fan fictions I have come across, the author does an amazing job of bringing forth the life of each character, staying very true to the source material. The dialogue is convincing and polished, allowing the reader to feel the refinement of each word. The plot development was well received, tension build up was present leading to a very rewarding climax.
